WINTERGREEN, Va.  (July 19, 2012) — Wintergreen Resort, in keeping with its preference to use locally grown products and produce, has added Bold Rock Hard Cider to its beverage menus at dining outlets across the mountain, including The Edge (which will feature Bold Rock on draft), Devils Grill, Stoney Creek and in banquets.

Pressed from locally grown Virginia apples, its name is inspired by Wintergreen’s primary visual - Black Rock Mountain, a feature in the resort’s and Bold Rock Farm’s view shed. Wintergreen Resort, located atop the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County, sits in the heart of apple country.  “At one time, more apples were shipped from Nelson County than anywhere else in the United States, and some of the local orchardists come from generations of apple growers,” said John Washburn, a.k.a. “Johnny Applecider,” executive chairman, Bold Rock Partners LP. “I am very involved in the Wintergreen community and extremely proud that the resort is the first establishment to receive our cherry wood tap handle carved from a tree on Bold Rock Farm.”

Bold Rock Cidery manufactures the historic apple beverage with flavorful tastes of the past at its’ Nelson County farm, located 1,000 feet from the 1700's estate named Wintergreen Farm, the resort’s namesake.

New ciders developed by Washburn and partner Brian Shanks, one of the world’s top cider makers, include Crimson Ridge - similar to apple wine with its’ seven percent alcohol content. Bold Rock also produces two other ciders with a 4.7 percent alcohol.

Located in the Virginia countryside dotted with numerous wineries and breweries, Bold Rock Hard Cider brings a new twist to beverages available to Wintergreen Resort guests and residents.

Wintergreen Resort offers an array of restaurants and overnight accommodations from studio condos to six bedroom houses with large kitchens.  For additional information and reservations please visit
