WINTERGREEN SKI PATROL HOLDS BONE MARROW DRIVE
TO HELP LOCAL PATROL MEMBER
WINTERGREEN, Va. (August 21, 2012) —Wintergreen Resort Ski Patrol is spearheading the search for a bone marrow match for one of its own and is asking for assistance from the community.
Dave Kilmer, Wintergreen ski patroller, has fought a rare form of cancer, RARS-T (refractory anemia) since 2008. He has undergone extensive treatments and now is in need of a lifesaving bone marrow transplant. While Kilmer found out that he may have a potential match, there may be a better match and there is always a need for more potential donors.
Thousands of patients like Kilmer depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a donor who can give them a chance for a cure. The Registry will be open on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the Wintergreen Ski Patrol Room, Grassy Ridge, in Wintergreen. A simple cheek swab (saliva) is all that is needed to determine if you could be the one to save one of the thousands of patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. Candidates will be contacted only if they are a match for someone in need.
A drawing will be held among all potential donors at Wintergreen and prizes include a season ski pass to Wintergreen Resort and a $100 gift certificate to Freestyle.
