WINTERGREEN THANKSGIVING WEEKEND FULL OF FAMILY
TRADITIONS
WINTERGREEN,
Va. (Oct. 2, 2012) — Wintergreen
Resort invites all ages to strut their stuff for the annual Turkey Trot 5K
held atop Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains on Thanksgiving Day, November
22. This is just one of many activities planned for the entire family
during this holiday weekend.
The Turkey
Trot 5K begins at 9 a.m. at Devils Knob Golf Course and is open to all runners
and walkers – as well as their canine companions – for an invigorating trot
around the mountain.
Registration
fees vary by age group and include a t-shirt: 6-12 ($15); 13-17 ($15); 18-39
($20); 40-64 ($20) and 65+ ($15). Children ages 5 and under are free with
paying adult, but do not receive a t-shirt.
Prizes will
be awarded for fastest male and female in each age group, as well as for the
fastest leashed dog, best costume and best leashed dog costume. Net
proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the Nelson County Community Fund.
For resort
guests participating in the 5K, relax at The Spa at Wintergreen and adjacent
Aquatics & Fitness Center. Soothing spa offerings feature post-race
massages, facials, and salon treatments for all members of the family.
The resort
will serve a lavish Thanksgiving Buffet at Copper Mine Bistro from 1-6 p.m. as
well as traditional fare at Stoney Creek Bar & Grill and Devils Grill.
Holiday dinner reservations suggested.
Preparation
for ski season kicks off with a Ski Swap on Friday at Skyline Pavilion. The
event supports the Wintergreen Ski Patrol with the opportunity to buy or sell
used skis, boots, snowboards and ski clothing. The doors open at 9 a.m.
to receive consignments.
Mouthwatering
aromas of gingerbread will fill the air during three Gingerbread House
Workshops throughout Friday afternoon. Wintergreen’s signature Plunge
Tubing Park will open weather permitting, and weekend activities are planned at
Discovery Ridge Adventure Center. The grand illumination on the Blue
Ridge Terrace at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 23 officially kicks off the holiday
season.
Additional
Thanksgiving weekend entertainment scheduled for Saturday and Sunday includes
wreath making, kid’s ornament workshops, holiday candy bingo, and a Warren
Miller movie, “Like There’s No Tomorrow,” at Discovery Ridge Adventure Center
with free popcorn and cash bar.
