WINTERGREEN, Va.  (October 30, 2012) - Wintergreen Resort has Santa booked to arrive at Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountain destination via chairlift this holiday season with a sack full of merriment and good cheer.  The Jolly Old Elf will make his annual rounds on the ski slopes, visit  Ridgely’s Fun Park and ride Wintergreen’s signature snow tubing Plunge.

The resort’s annual Blue Ridge Mountain Family Christmas celebration begins Dec. 23 with complimentary cookie decorating and story reading with Mrs. Claus and Santa’s Elves at the Gristmill for members and registered Wintergreen Resort guests.

Santa arrives on Dec. 24 to dole out his goodies on the ski slope and at appointed locations around the resort between noon and 2 p.m.  In the evening, Wintergreen staff will be on hand to take family photos in front of the festive Christmas tree located in the ballroom. A Christmas Eve nondenominational worship service will be held at 7 p.m. in the ballroom with refreshments following.

On Christmas Day, holiday guests can celebrate across the mountain with a full array of activities available and outlets open and ready to enjoy!

Wintergreen promises its own Santa’s sack full of holiday family activities that will include Family Broomball at Shamokin Ice with two 20-minute sessions plus with a complimentary hot chocolate and doughnut break between games (Dec. 27).

Guests can build and race a classic cardboard vehicle made solely from cardboard and duct tape. The race starts at Ridgely’s Fun Park with prizes awarded for the fastest, most creative, and best design (Dec. 28).

Another favorite, ice bowling at Shamokin Ice is popular with all ages especially with prizes given to the best bowlers age 7 and under, 8 -12, 13 and over, plus complimentary refreshments (Dec. 29).

Fireworks at 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve will explode high above snowy slopes to welcome 2013. The evening promises plenty of celebrating with parties planned for children, teens and adults. Discovery Ridge Adventure Center welcomes teens ages 13-17 for a New Year’s Eve countdown complete with x box, Wii, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, mechanical bull and refreshments that include sparking juices. Prizes will be awarded during hourly competitions.

Reservations are required for most activities; fees vary.  Please call 434-325-8180 for information and reservations. All children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult for all activities.
