WINTERGREEN, Va. (April 29, 2013) –Mountain bike racers will converge on Wintergreen Resort this Memorial Day Weekend for the first ever cross country race, Cliffhanger Mountain Bike Challenge. This event will round out the resort’s annual May celebration highlighted by the popular “Blues, Brews & BBQ” music festival. 

The Cliffhanger Challenge cross-country mountain bike competition, part of the Virginia Off Road Series (VORS), will be held on Sunday, May 26, on a challenging six-mile course through Wintergreen’s ski terrain, part of the resort’s 11,000 acres located in the Blue Ridge Mountains southwest of Charlottesville, Va. On Saturday, May 25 participants will have the opportunity to pre-ride the course. The race will start on Sunday at noon with the expert category followed by sport/singlespeed, then beginners. 

Racing categories have been created on VORS Guidelines as expert (three laps), sport (two laps) and beginner (one lap), for both men and women, and by age group, providing an opportunity for everyone who wants to “take the challenge.”  Cash and gift prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
