Tired of the Oppressive Summer Heat?

Are you getting cranky dealing with the heat? Are tempers flaring? Is the asphalt jungle becoming too much? The solution is a trip to Wintergreen.

We have no traffic. In fact there is only one stop light in the entire county and you won’t find it on your trip.

We have 11,000 acres of shade - wow!

We are at 3800 feet elevation – probably 3000 feet higher than where you are right now. That translates to cool temperatures and summer breezes. It is not uncommon to experience a temperature difference of 12 to 18 degrees lower than surrounding areas. Just check out the graph below of our average monthly temperatures. They rarely top 80!

It is truly different up here; you won’t need to hibernate in air conditioning.  Come and play outside this summer at Wintergreen.

Top 5 Tips on How to Cool Off at Wintergreen Resort

  1. Aquatics & Fitness Center Pools - What’s a summer vacation without time in the pool and Wintergreen has two – indoor and out! It’s your choice, but in the heat of summer, head to the outdoor pool. It’s cool!
  2. Paul’s Water Creek – Located in the valley, this short hike is a family favorite. Round trip the hike is 1.2 miles and in the middle is a really cool series of cascading waterfalls with a natural pool carved out of the rocks. Perfect for a cooling dip before heading back.
  3. Devils Grill Deck – when you need to sit back and relax, head to the deck at Devils Grill for a cooling beverage after a round of golf – or just watch the golfers.
  4. The Zip – It’s a fast 900 feet in under 30 seconds, but boy is it cool – in so many ways!
  5. Lake Monocan – Nothing better than spending the day or afternoon at the Lake. Play on the sandy beach, catch some rays, try paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, or take a stroll around the lake. And whenever you break a sweat, cool off in the lake.
