If you’re looking to learn how to ski or snowboard, or to build on your existing skills, our instructors are waiting for you! Choose from one and two-hour private lessons, or our half and full-day kids’ camps! Click on the tabs below to browse our lesson offerings.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are not only a great way to learn to ski or snowboard, but you can revamp your skills and become a better skier or snowboarder. We have daily lessons—plus Early Bird and Parent and Me privates at great rates.

Our Snowsports Office will open in November for booking your private and Treehouse lessons for the 2025-2026 ski season. Please reach out then to reserve your lessons.

**NEW** One-hour single-guest ski private lessons may be booked online for weekends and holidays. If your preferred date appears unavailable, or if you’d like a longer, multi-guest, or midweek lesson, please call our Snowsports Office at 434-325-8179.

Private instruction offers you one-on-one coaching and instruction with one of Wintergreen’s trained instructors many of whom are PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) or AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) certified. Our instructors have the passion to help you learn to love skiing and snowboarding as much as they do. Choose from one or two hour private lesson sessions throughout the day.

Lift ticket and equipment rental is not included in the price of the lesson. Participants are required to have a valid lift ticket.

The safest and most fun way for a family to ski or snowboard together! We’ll pair you up with an instructor who will teach to everyone in the group.  This is a great option for families who want to stick together to learn the sport. Please keep in mind that this is lesson will progress at the pace of the child. If the adults do not want to be slowed down, we recommend separate private lessons.

Requirements: Children must be at least 8 years old.

 

Private Lesson Times: Offered Daily

8am*, 9:15am, 10:30am, 12:30pm, 1:45pm, 3:00pm, 4:15pm and 5:30pm*

  • 4:15pm & 5:30pm lessons are not available when the slopes close at 5pm
  • *8am & 5:30pm private lessons are ONLY available during holiday and peak times
  • Holiday Periods: December 25-January 1, January 16-19, and February 13-16
  • Peak times: Saturdays & Sundays
  • Full refunds will be given 48 hours prior to your reservation.
  • No refunds will be given within 48 hours of your lesson
  • Reservations are required for private lessons 
  • No discounts are available for private lessons

Group Lessons

For ages 8+, Group lessons are a great way to learn a new sport and meet new people. Over the course of two-hours, group lessons will introduce you to your equipment, cover the fundamentals and movements of the sport, and aim to get you sliding and stopping safely on the snow. If you feel uncomfortable in a group setting, or would like more personalized instruction, we recommend a private lesson.

Midweek lessons are available day of only.
Sold-out dates may have additional availability day of.

Ski Group lessons are available for advance reservation:
Saturdays: 9:15-11:15, 12:30-2:30, 3:00-5:00

Group lessons may be purchased the day-of from our main ticket windows located at Skyline Pavilion or in our Snowsports Office located in the Treehouse facility. If you need to rent equipment, it will be more convenient for you to purchase the group lesson from the main ticket windows.

Other lesson times are available to purchase on site throughout the week on a first time first serve basis, as well as Snowboard Group lessons on weekends. More slots may open up to purchase online or on-site as they become available.

  • Are lift tickets and rentals included in this price? No, all lesson participants are required to have a valid lift ticket and appropriate equipment (i.e.: ski equipment for a ski lesson)
  • Where do I purchase these group lessons? You can purchase group lessons at our Skyline Ticket Windows (located in Skyline Pavilion), or at our Snowsports School headquarters (located in the Treehouse Children’s Facility behind the Mountain Inn).
  • Can I pre-book a group lesson for my family when I book my lodging? Group lessons can be purchased in limited quantity, in advance online, or in-person, day-off, at our Skyline Ticket Windows or Snowsports School Office. No group lessons can be purchased over the phone.
  • How many people will be in my group lesson? We strive to keep our groups to sizes of 6-8 participants per instructor.
  • If I don’t like the lesson once it’s started, can I get a refund? There are no refunds on group lessons.
  • Can my children take the group lesson with me? The minimum age for participants is 8 years old, and we will group each lesson by age. We recommend grouping adults with other adults and children with other children. The instructor will teach to the lowest ability level in the group, we do not want any participant feeling held back.

 

NO refunds will be given for lessons purchased day-of. For lessons booked in advance online, you will receive a full refund if you cancel 48 hours prior to the start of your lesson.

Kids Programs

Wintergreen offers the kids ski and snowboarding programs beginning in December. We have a variety of programs for kids as young as 5 just learning the basics to advanced programs for teens training to be junior instructors.

Our Snowsports Office will open in November for booking your private and Treehouse lessons for the 2025-2026 ski season. Please reach out then to reserve your lessons.

What could be better than learning to ski with new friends? Children are placed in groups based on age and ability level. Our ski instructors are trained to meet your children’s needs. They know when it’s time for a break, a motivational snowball fight to keep spirits up or tips to improve their student’s skiing/snowboarding technique.

Womens Ski Clinic

(BLACK) DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND!!
Black diamonds – they are priceless! And they are worth every penny when you ski them well!  These women’s clinics will focus on the skills and techniques that will elevate your skiing, helping you feel more confident on steeper terrain. Enjoy being able to ski more of the mountain with family and friends. We will learn on ‘lesser terrain’, then take it to the Diamonds.  There will be plenty of practice and experimentation time with one-on-one attention and individual feedback.  Let’s go meet with our “besties” and learn to “savor the steeper”!

1/11/26 – Clinic #1 Controlling Your Speed

This is the number one concern when encountering steeper terrain.
We will explore turn shape and appropriate use of edging to keep things “under control.”

1/25/26 – Clinic #2 Managing the Different Snow Conditions

Ungroomed, Crud, Ice….oh my! We will explore what techniques work best in each snow condition in steeper terrain.

2/1/26 – Clinic #3 Those Annoying Bumps!

You’ll be looking forward to encountering bumps once you can “survive” them.  There are lots of ways to ski bumps. We’ll explore ways to ‘survive’ them and ways to actually conquer them.

2/8/26 – Clinic #4 Finding Your Flow

This is where we put it all together, by using what we’ve learned, to flow beautifully
down that Diamond! Further exploration and experimentation with the
“fundamentals”: edging, pressure management, rotary, and inclination/angulation. We’ll study the trail, the conditions, the terrain, and practice strategies to find our flow.

2/22/26 – Bonus The Kitchen Sink Clinic

Bring one issue you’d like to understand better or solve, or something you’d like to be able to do better. We’ll put everyone’s requests together and come up with a plan for the day.

Afternoon Adult Ski Clinic

Sign up for a progressive and tailored approach to achieving your skiing goals.  We start by exploring the five basic foundations of skiing which serve as key ingredients to better ski performance.  Through various activities, we will continue building on these foundations to boost your skills and knowledge and serve as your guide for elevating your skiing performance to the next level and beyond.

*Ages 18 and up
