What's the best thing about 5th and 6th grade? How about three FREE lift tickets at Wintergreen Resort! Designed to encourage all 5th and 6th graders to take the plunge and become skiers or snowboarders, this program makes it easy.

Learning to ski or snowboard can be part of your home school curriculum - or make it a part of your physical fitness program for the winter. As a home schooler, you have the flexibility to take advantage of coming during the week and avoid the weekend crowds. That means shorter lift lines and more runs!
This year the program will have a few options;
4 lift tickets only, 4 lift tickets + rental, or 4 lift tickets + rental + 4 progressive lessons

Wintergreen Snowsports School has been helping Scouts attain their Snow Sports merit badge for many years and is familiar with the snow sports merit badge requirements and workbook.
Wintergreen has excellent terrain and qualified instructors (certified with PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) and AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) who have specialized training for the merit badge requirements for the Downhill (Alpine) Skiing option and the Snowboarding option. Wintergreen does not have instructors or terrain available for the Cross Country (Nordic) Skiing option.
Scouts who are most successful in attaining their Snow Sports merit badge have completed workbook sections 1-4 and are ready for section 5 which is on the snow. If the candidate is already comfortable skiing or riding on Intermediate terrain the instructor can help them complete section 5 and evaluate their on snow skills in a 1.25 hour lesson
For beginner skiers and snowboarders it is more difficult to learn and master all of the skills needed to safely meet the merit badge requirements on intermediate terrain. We recommend a 3 hour lesson for beginners and keep the lesson on beginner terrain.
Instructors will sign each page of the appropriate option in workbook section 5 indicating the results of the evaluation. Counselors are welcome to join the lessons but are not required to. In addition to helping with section 5 the instructor can help with questions and provide assistance as needed with sections 1-4.

Local area students, their parents, school faculty and staff who are out of school due to inclement weather can get an 8-hour Lift Ticket at reduced rates. School districts included: Charlottesville, Waynesboro, Staunton, Lynchburg, Metro Richmond, and the counties of Nelson, Albemarle, Augusta, Amherst, Greene, Louisa, Orange, Buckingham, Rockbridge. Valid midweek, non-holiday, only. Children 13 and younger must be accompanied by a parent. College students attending schools in the local area are eligible for this offer - just present your college ID.
